Tonight You Belong To Me, Patience & Prudence

I know I just posted a different version of this song last Friday, but I realized I have a few covers scattered throughout my iTunes and I think it’s funny how distinct each version sounds. They all evoke different moods (as music always sneakily does.)

When I first heard Tonight You Belong To Me (this version I’m posting now), I felt like it was kind of sad. There was this person who loved someone already in a new relationship (moved on), and it seemed kind of pathetic that this person couldn’t let it go. I thought, pick yourself up and go find someone else… blah blah blah.

Then, I thought about how sometimes we forget to really appreciate a moment. So those moments pass, and all we have left is what we can remember. That’s usually how life goes right?

But why does it have to be that way? Why can’t we hold on to our moments a little longer and pretend they’re still happening and that the conditions and people who created those moments still exist in that way?

I realized I couldn’t fault this imaginary storyteller of this imaginary story song for being pathetic or unable to move on.

There are times when everything works. And there’s no reason why you wouldn’t want to stop and hold on to that moment for just one more night.
